I haven't been on here for few months as I have been feeling better since starting on Levo 25mg but the past two weeks I feel most of symptoms have come back just had new blood test the receptionist said ok. I am really depressed, hungry, got diaroea all time, muscle cramps getting hot a lot. Should I go back to docs as lost faith in them.

I am sorry you are feeling so bad but I think that this is due to you being on 25mcg only.

Your dose is probably far too low causing all the symptoms you have and I will give you a list of symptoms:-

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

We have to read, learn, ask questions of others on the forum in order for us to recover our health. Members on this forum are here because they're not improving through the doctor because most doctors/endocrinologists have no clue about how to treat us, except to look at the TSH result. If it is somewhere in the range (up to 5 approx) they will stop increasing dose.

This should be the procedure:-

Patient is diagnosed and given 50mcg of levothyroxine (unless they are very frail with a heart disease in which case it would be 25mcg) - which they take - usually first thing on an empty stomach - and wait an hour before eating. Food interferes with the uptake of the hormones.

Every six weeks a blood test is taken and and increase of 25mcg each time until the TSH is 1 or lower. NOT higher.

Your doctor should also check Vitamin B12, and D, iron, ferritin and folate.

We have to be proactive about our health otherwise we will be unwell constantly and you will be prescribe other medicaions for symptoms instead of an optimum of levothyroxine.

Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges - Ranges are important for members to comment upon them. We are entitled by LAW to get a print-out. My surgery charges 30p a sheet.

To get the best results follow this procedure:

The earliest appointment - fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose and the test and take it afterwards. Make the appointments in advance so you get the earliest one.
