Help interpreting recent bloods please

Hello all.

My doc finally allowed me to double my meds and I am now on 50mg of Eltroxine after a long battle. I am definitely starting to feel a bit better after three weeks on this amount. I have attached a pic of my last three blood results taken before she upped my meds. Just wondering do I need to take a supplement or do the other levels look ok? As always, I would appreciate any advice.

Also, can I just say a big thank you to all of you that have helped and supported me. It is because of the information and advice that you have given to me, that has helped me to persevere and be able to deal with my doc in an informed manner.

Best wishes

Steph

Your thyroid levels are going the right way, I dare say you'll need further increases in your dose of Levo.

B12 is too low at 294 (187-883). Although there is no unit of measurement, if it's pg/ml or ng/L then the following extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok applies:

"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".

"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."

In which case you could supplement with sublingual methylcobalamin lozenges for the low B12 plus a good B Complex to balance all the B vitamins. For the B Complex, one containing 400mcg methylfolate is recommended as that will raise your rather low folate level - it should be at least half way through range. Look at Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

Ferritin could be better, recommended is half way through range. That may easily be sorted by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...

If you don't like liver then substitute liver pate but again keep to the maximum amount mentioned. Black pudding is another iron rich food.

Thanks for your help Susie and apologies for the delay in replying. I have bought a separate B Complex and a folate supplement and together they add up to 400mcg of methylfolate. I got a selenium one as well as they advised me in the health shop that it was good for thyroid. Thanks again. Not sure what to take for ferritin as I won't eat liver so I will wait and see how I get on with these first. X

Yes, selenium helps with conversion of T4 to T3. Did you get selenium l-selenomethionine - that's the most absorbable form. No more than 200mcg daily, and some people prefer to test their selenium level first. Selenite and selenate forms should be avoided as they are the least absorbable forms.

The fact that you bought from a health shop concerns me - is it H&B? I hope you didn't buy their own brands.

I got high absorbion selenium by Bioactive, Solgar folate 400ug and terra nova vit b complex with bit c. It was Evergreen Health food shop and they were very helpful.

Thanks for your help and advice Susie. I really appreciate it. X
