Heatwave

I have Hashimotos and usually tolerate the heat fairly well but this year Iam finding cannot My BP has dropped quite a bit although it was a smudge on high side usually. This makes me feel bit wobbly. Had diarrhoea today. Probably because I have been eating lots of fruit and drinking loads of water. I am feeling as though I have to stay inside until temp drops around 25. Is this Hashimotos thing or just because I am older I am 74.

So do I I'm probably the most stable and healthy I've ever been but I am really struggling to cope with this heat to be honest as is my 7 yr old daughter who has no health problems. If you live in the uk, we don't normally get so many hot days and nights in a row and it's killing me!! Everyone is moaning and we're having massive arguments over the air con in the office lol! One person even stole the key to the cupboard it's in - that's how fed up we all are.

Only think I can suggest is get a washing up type tub, stick cold water in it to up past your ankle and sit watching Tv with your feet in it - should cool down quite nicely. Not that the water is that cold at the moment but maybe put some colder water in the fridge and do half this and half tap water. Also a spray bottle to keep spraying water on yourself is useful for short term relief.

You should see how moody my pets are :-/

Hi Sylvia

I’m using a liquid cold pack at night wrapped in a tea towel. Cools my neck & back when getting into bed & I use it during day too as needed. I’ve got 2 so one stays in freezer while the other one is in use. If you’re drinking a lot of water your sodium could be low which might make you wobbly? Might be worth getting a blood test.

Good luck

Yes I was told at one time my sodium was bit low so I use Himalayan Salt. Sometimes put a little in my water. The packs sound good

Hi Sylvia, to be honest, I go up and down like a yo-yo in the heat. My problem with Hashis is that I either don’t sweat when I should, or I sweat excessively when I haven’t actually done anything. So I never really know how I’m going to be, especially as i have a lung disease too and high humidity makes both 10x worse.

One thing though... the excessive sweating often seems to go hand in hand with diarrhoea...

Anyway, hope you feel better soon!

Thanks. After tomorrow we should have some cooler weather. I like the Sun but just too much. I have been resting and putting feet in cold water. Slept for 3 hrs this afternoon. I had. Bout of gippy stomach the other day. Hope you cope all right.
