It is TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).

You also need the reference ranges to interpret your results as they differ from lab to lab. There's no way of knowing if your FT4 is within range or over range.

TSH and FT4 aren't enough, you also need FT3 done at the same time because you need to know if you are converting the T4 (from the Levo) into the active hormone that every cell in our bodies need, which is T3. As some conversion takes place in the thyroid, and yours is now removed, the other organs in your body that also help conversion may not be producing enough T3, so it's vital that your FT3 is tested. Unfortunately, this rarely gets done.

If you are putting on weight and are lethargic, it may be that your FT3 is low as that's what causes symptoms. So you can try and persuade your doctor to do FT4 and FT3 together, or you can get a private test if your GP can't get the FT3 test done.

Medichecks Thyroid Monitoring test

Blue Horizon Thyroid Plus Three test

Both tests can be done by fingerprick or venous blood draw at extra cost if you prefer.

It's also important to know our nutrient levels as we need optimal levels of vitamins and minerals for thyroid hormone to work - Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin.

You can get a thyroid/vitamin bundle from both labs

Some do. My FT3 gets done every time I have a test through my GP because my TSH always is suppressed, it's usually the lab's decision at the end of the day.

So if you can't get it done on the NHS then go for the private test. You will only know what may be at the root of your problem when that is done. Although I would strongly recommend the test that includes vitamins and minerals if you've not already had those done recently.
