Carbimazole : Does carbimazole really gets you so... - Thyroid UK
Carbimazole
A few more details would help, if that’s ok? How long have you been on carbimazole? Have you been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism? What were your blood test results? What dosage have you been prescribed?
Hi I been on carbimazole since april 2018 , 5mg one time a day. and yes i do have hyperthyroidism. My latest results was :
TSH - 0.10
T4 : 17.8
T3 : 5.0
OK. I don’t know if you have the laboratory reference ranges for those numbers because it’s hard to be sure exactly what’s happening without them. But if the ranges are similar to those often used in the UK then that suggests your dose is about right
That said, that’s going to be putting quite a brake on what your thyroid was pumping out, so yes, absolutely it can cause you to feel moody, sluggish and low. It’s a bit like when you’re driving at 70 and come down to 40 - and 40 feels really slow. Yet 40 is still pretty fast. It takes a while to get used to the reduction in speed.
How old are those results? Are they recent? It’s possible that if it’s been a while that 5mg of carbimazole is now a little too much.
