Do you have a copy of your blood test results for hyperthyroidism? If not ask surgery for a print-out of your results with the ranges. Ranges are important to enable members to comment upon them.
Are you sure you have 'hyperthyroidism' and not hypothyroidism?
I have been told it’s hyperthyroidism although I’m still waiting for tests to be done. My levels are coming down a bit, I think but
TSH 0.01
T4 19
T3 6.9
I’m trying to tell myself I will be ok, and can’t yet accept this might be a life long condition.
Do you have the ranges for the tests (usually in brackets after the result) ? We need to see the ranges to be sure, but you probably aren't very far over. (different labs use different reference ranges).
Have you been referred to an endocrinologist yet, and have they already started you on anti-thyroids ? (Probably Carbimazole).
When you see the endo, they should order antibody tests to help confirm what is causing you to be hyper (either TSI or TrAb for Graves', plus TPO). GPs often can't order these tests on the NHS, so you will probably need to wait for the specialist.
As for diet, I was just told to eat a normal, varied, healthy balanced diet, and on that basis, didn't need to avoid anything. That said, I don't eat/drink soy milk products anyway.
Not sure about the aching feet either - are they very swollen ? In the heat we've been having especially, you may find that you get dehydrated - I was drinling gallons of iced water and other drinks when I was first diagnosed.
No, that’s the only results I have been given. I am on 20g Carbimazole and 10g propranolol. I stopped taking propranolol but my heart was racing so currently taking 10g.
Saw endocrinologist but follow up is in September.
My feet aren’t swollen but if I have been walking or standing around the underneath of my foot aches so much I have to sit down. I have bought some really comfy slipper like shoes for work!
Soy isn't a good thing for anybody to eat. It is not a health food, and can cause lots of problems.
It's absolutely vital to get those antibodies tested. Diagnosing 'hyper', is not good enough. You need to know why.
I only really eat soya in Alpro Desserts, but I might have to stop eating them.
I’m having another blood test next week, although my doctor doesn’t really know what she’s talking about. Waiting for my next Endo appointment so hopefully she will have more information.
Hi Oopsy, this is a list of all the topics from Stop the thyroid Madness website which has helped thyroid patients for over a decade. They have links to almost any question you could ask. Look at the hyper side of the coin. Yet, some experts say this is all Hashimoto's whether over or under. stopthethyroidmadness.com/s...
