Total thyroidectomy

After having part of my thyroid removed some 23 years ago, I'm having the remained removed next month.

At my pre-op today, the nurse said I would be in for 3 - 7 days. Alarming! I wondered what other people's experiences were on how long they had to stay in hospital... (I realise it will depend on my circumstances in the end).

Thanks!

Hi pinkpixie, had 7/8ths of mine removed 30 years ago, was in hospital about 6 days. I had the wound stapled so after 3 days half the staples removed(every other one) other half the following day. I found it hard to swallow for couple days as throat was quite sore. I was advised by a pharmacist friend to massage pure lanolin cream into the scar a few times a day, just a small amount. It flattened the scar down and took away redness, also stopped it from feeling tight. I wish you well with your operation and a swift recovery.

I had the second half of mine removed about 17 years ago, and I believe I had no more than 2 nights in hospital. It may even have been only one.
