FOLIC ACID WITH LEVOTHYROXINE
Yes, but don't take it at the same time. Most supplements need to be taken 2 hours away from Levo, some need 4 hours such as iron, calcium, magnesium, Vit D.
Welcome to our forum,
It is always best to take levothyroxine on its own. It should always be taken on an empty stomach and most find when they get up in the morning the most convenient. You take it with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating. Others prefer a bedtime dose - in that case you have to leave about 3 hours between food and levo as it takes longer for our stomach to empty as we are hypo.
As some vitamins/minerals could affect the uptake, I find taking them at lunchtime best as some have to be taken with food. Read the instructions on vits/minerals.
If having a blood test you don't take levo a.m. and it should be fasting (you can drink water) and take levothyroxine after test (also known as T4). This helps to keep our TSH at its highest as some doctors adjust dose according to the TSH which we don't want.
If you prefer taking levothyroxine at bedtime, you miss this dose and take after test and night dose as usual.
Always get a print-out of your results, with the ranges. Ranges are important for members to comment upon them as labs differ in their machines and so ranges might also be different.
Ask GP to test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate at your next test.
