When I was a more serious runner 5 years ago I based my Marathon training runs on the maffetone method.
The results worked well but it did require a lot of discipline.
Roll forward 5 years to the present time and I did an 8 mile run at the slowest rate for me you can imagine - 5km at 8.7kmh then the team infer at 10kmh.
I did this as I had not had time to do a longer run for ages and wanted to stay very relaxed all the way through.
I ended up enjoying the run so much that I reflected on why I had enjoyed running in the past and this had involved developing a strong aerobic base leading to low stress and relaxed running.
Having for the first time now got my blood levels under a measure of sensible control I want to ensure that I keep them that way as much as I can control things.
So I will take a new direction in my running and measure progress from keeping to a sensible low HR of perhaps around 120-130.
This is a huge challenge as my HR shows within a few minutes of running I struggle to
Keep it below 140.
Hoping this will enable me to not put undue strain on thyroid while upping training mileage over the summer.
If anyone else on the thread is making headway with this already I would be interested to know.
