All you can do is experiment and find what suits you best.
Always take your Levo on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food, with a glass of water only, no tea, coffee, milk, etc, and water only one hour each side. This ensures nothing affects it's absorption. If taking your Levo at night and you have your main meal in the evening, make sure you leave 3 hours before taking Levo.
Any other medication or supplements should be taken 2 hours away from Levo, some need 4 hours.
As you have Hashi's, you can help reduce the antibodies by adopting a strict gluten free diet and supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily. Keeping TSH suppressed can also help reduce the antibodies.
Hi lovely totally agree with seaside suzie .but i take so many b4 i go to bed for RD .i take them in the morning but i also have a sickly stomach so make sure i eat something an hour later. Xx
Thanks for the advice, I had thought about the gluten as I’m also having stomach problems aswell bloating etc so it might be a good shout.
Anything to make me feel better 😀 it’s horrible so many symptoms 🙄
I think I’ve had symptoms for years with a few prolonged bouts of illness in between but always had the spaced out foggy head tiredness tinnitus eye floaters for as long as I remember.
It doesn't matter, once it builds up in the body it has a long half like so will be available for the 24 hours till your next dose. You might find it easier to consider it in relation to when you eat and drink, and sleep. If you take levothyroxin you should leave an hour before eating, taking calcium( milk, yoghurt, cheese etc), caffeine or other drugs and supplements, or if you do eat etc then wait at least 2 hours ( possibly upto 3 hours for women who digest slower) till you take your levothyroxin. So if your likestyle allows you to take your levothyroxin very early well before breakfast that should be ok, similarly could be at bedtime. Take lots of water with the thyroxin. Many of us take it in the middle of the night as we get up for the loo. If you take supplements like Vit D or iron beware taking your thyroxin within 4 hours of their digestion- good idea to go with spray/ drops for Vit D as ingestion via the mouth is not so problematic re length of time before taking T4, or other pills. So it's up to you, getting into a good habit not to forget it, nor ingesting it with items that can hamper absorption.
Don't believe the doctor. Did he tell you that food interferes with the uptake of the hormone? No, I expect is the answer. Few doctors are experts these days with regard to hypo and symptoms. Before the blood tests and levothyroxine were inntroduced all doctors knew all symptoms and we were given a trial of NDT. (natural dessicated thyroid hormones).
Most find a.m. dose more convenient i.e. when we get up with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating (usually by the time we get dressed etc and hour has elapsed).
If you find a bedtime dose best, make sure you've last eaten about 2 to three hours before. Also take dose with one glass of water.
If you are having a blood test next day and take an a.m. dose, miss dose and take after test. If you take a bedtime dose, miss this and take after a.m. test and take as usuall the same day at bedtime.
I’ve had a few illnesses over the years and was told I had pvfs every time because my bloods were all normal but i always remember I was always told my thyroid was borderline every time. So I’ve been feeling awful for weeks this time bloods done same outcome test again in 4 months so I asked what my last to test results were 6 months ago my tsh was 5.5 which I now know to be high then 2 weeks ago it was 11.5.....he wanted it retested in 4 months and I was 11.5 that’s how good a doctor I have 😂
Anyway I made him test me properly and low and behold I got a very sheepish call from him telling me I was right and my immune system is attacking my thyroid(or the other way round).
If I hadn’t said something I’d still be feeling awful and no further forward .....doctors 🙄🙄🤣
One of our doctors (now deceased) has stated (more or less that there incompetence) that patients are in a Parlous Situation due to the ignoreance of the medical profession.
He stated that with their reliance of blood test results and ignoring clinical symptoms (modern-day doctors know none and wont diagnose by them) we are put in a Parlous Situation.
We definitely can believe that. I believe that everyone on this forum knows far more (eventually) that any Endo or GP.
Coffee and bran have a substantial effect on levothyroxine absorption, other foods little effect. Morning or evening are both fine, as your doctor says it doesn't really matter. Just be consistent and then you dose can be adjusted accordingly.
