Medication dose : Hi I'm currently taking 200 mg... - Thyroid UK
Medication dose
As a simple, factual answer, over 3000 micrograms. I have previously posted a link to a paper - he had no symptoms of over-dosing.
Yet another case illustrating how varied we are.
L-thyroxine overdose: a case of marked, severe, prolonged, excess ingestion and review of the literature.

Thyroidology / A.P.R.I.M [1993, 5(2):61-66]
A case of a man with thyroid cancer who ingested between 0.9 and 3.3 mg l-thyroxine per day for over 10 years (the highest dose for 3 years) is reported. This had been prescribed for suppression of TSH for a well differentiated thyroid cancer. He was essentially asymptomatic and suffered no apparent ill effects from this prolonged and markedly excessive dosage of l-thyroxine. The literature lists a wide range of ill effects from both chronic and acute thyroid hormone overdosage but also records many examples of tolerance to excessive levels of exogenous thyroid hormone. The various circumstances leading to thyroid hormone overdose and potential ill-effects are reviewed.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.
Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.
If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested.
Malabsorption due to low stomach acid is also common
I take 125mg plus 12.5mg T3, the T3 made a massive difference
i don't take levothyroxine until this day .. i have subclinical hypothyroidism and have some symptoms but would consider taking hormone until and if my FT4 will be very low...and my t3 level would show a problem... then i would have to choose which hormone the best... sorry that i can not help you at the moment
