It's great your going to start with NDT . However I would advice you to run labs to see how your FT3, FT4, TSH, RT3 are at before you start with NDT . If you want to dose with NDT you need to check if your FT4 is high for T3 /NDT to be introduced . And to check if your FT3 is not to high to add more T3/NDT because you might just be a great converter . It's also very possible that you could and will benefit from dosing with NDT no doubt . Your lab results will help you with that .It's a balancing act .

You might also want to start if you haven't already with nutrients . Vitamin"D" , B-12/folate , Iron if you test low (ferritin) Magnesium . And when you have labs done on the thyroid markers ask to run labs with the nutrients mentioned . Nutrients help with our thyroids to work better for us .

*SlowDragon* has Great Post on Gluten Free . I can tell you from my own experiences how very helpful it is for me and many others .

Best wishes for a successful outcome .

Tks much. My thyroid levels are fine. I'm taking Synthroid for 20 years and feels tired and drugged up with 55mg. I feel that my body needs a change. My question is for someone who is taking 55mg Synthroid, what will be the NDT dosage?

I am vegetarian, gluten, dairy, soy free. I distill my water, use free chemicals toothpaste.

You might want to just switch from Synthroid to Levoxyl , Unithroid or Tirosint .

Best Wishes !

Is it the same as NDT?

Pastry ,

The brands I mentioned are all Levo . NDT is a combination of T3 &T4 . It's made from a pigs thyroid . It has more T3 than T4 . Where as by humans it's more T4 with less T3 .

It doesn't have more T3 than T4! It is approximately 4:1 ratio of T4:T3.

Whereas we see different numbers but in humans suggestions of 10:1 to 14:1 or even higher are common.

So it has a higher proportion of T3 than do humans (mind, the ratios being compared are those in the thyroid for pigs against those in blood for humans - which raises lots of questions).

Well, whatever works to feel better.

But Synthroid contains lactose!

Why changing for the same T4 hormone?

I'm not trying to tell you which way to go . It's totally up to you . But you did mention that you where on Synthroid for a while and that you feel "that my body needs a change" . I suggested you might want to try a different brand and see how that feels . Sometimes fillers can make us feel ill and give us symptoms . Synthroid has fillers in it that many have problems with . I was one of them .

Ok. Tks

Pastry ,

I'm on Levoxyl because as I mentioned that I did very badly on Synthroid . And take a low dose Naturethroid (NDT) I have no thyroids . I was not converting well T4 to T3 . But I had to run labs first before my Endo would give me any NDT . I would suggest that you run labs too .

in reply to jgelliss

Done that. I'm glad you found what works for you

It's called work in progress . There is always little tweaks here and there . Try to journal your symptoms and get to know your numbers . Get copies of all your lab results and put them into a page protector . You will have what to compare it to if you should need to refer to it .

Wishing you success in finding your sweet spot !

20 years, it is a long time on Synthroid. Thyroid levels change all the time and I'm been checked only twice/year. Not worried about levels so much. O know I need thyroid hormone to function.
