Severe reaction to enzyme tablets

I bought the enzymes as suggested by a member on here. I took them along with the recommended vitamin supplements. On day three I noticed a rash under my arms between and under my breasts. The rash progressed to my stomach, front and back of thighs. The itching is awful. I have been prescribed Chlorphenamene 4mg by my gp. I am now on the 5th day of the rash appearing and it is not fading. Has anyone any advice on this?

Rashes are not uncommon when taking digestive enzymes. One of the reasons is related to Candida, when the candida dies off they release toxins which causes a rash, so in one sense it shows the enzymes are working and it is part of the healing process. If you are taking more than one tablet a day, try reducing the number for a while and see if this slows up the process of die-off. Avoid sugar and refined flour.

Thank you for replying Caddie. I have not taken an enzyme tablet since Friday. The rash is horrific. Each elbow has a patch which feels like plastic as it's so dense with spots. The backs of my thighs feel like moon craters. My GP said she'd no idea what it was. I looked up all the tablets I'd begun as supplements and the enzyme seemed to be the cause.

I too have reactions to vitamins and supplements, and now most medications. I wonder if part of the thyroid complications include sensitivity to new things?? .. Even if they are only natural replacements.?? In recent years I can't eat a lot of things I once did. I have had allergy tests, but they come back normal, yet I still get hives /rashes/dizziness/cramps etc. Hope you feel more comfortable soon. Probably best avoid those!

Thank you for replying. I've had it a week now and feel like ripping my skin off. Strange but good that it's missed my face, lower arms (except two lozenge shapes on the bony bits near elbow) back and lower leg.

It’s not unusual to have hidden autoimmune problems that cause rash’s once you start to “ detox” or add supplements that might do things like healing your gut ! Totally unrelated to the medication itself but causally related to the effect it has on the immune response your body has, so don’t automatically rule out continuing with the enzymes, like the other writer suggested, reduce the dose. I’ve had this happen several times now when starting new supplements Eventually the rash subsided even with continued use. I take digestive enzymes too ( modere brand ) and I had a very similar experience, I Persisted with a lower dose for awhile and am able to take them without any further rash

Thank you for replying. The rash is so bad that I dare not continue with enzymes until it has eased. It has driven me mad with itching and nothing I've tried has eased it.
