Addisons disease and related medication

I take Hydrocortisone daily as well as Concor and Preductal. I want to know if it is safe to take a multi vitamin tablet daily as I am suffering from hair loss, dry skin ,tiredness and bruising as well as swollen feet due to the above medication. I am 73 year female and was diagnosed with Addisons 3 years ago.

Multivitamins are generally pretty useless. They contain not enough of anything to help and tend to contain the cheapest and least absorbable form of active ingredients. If they contain iron then nothing else will be absorbed because iron needs to be taken 2 hours away from other supplements.

Best to test and supplement individually where levels are low or deficient.

Have you had thyroid panel done? Hair loss, dry skin and tired can be symptoms of hypothyroidism.

I wa diagnosed with Addison’s last November. I was badly losing my hair - my Endo believes it was because I was so Ill by the time I was diagnosed and wasn’t absorbing anything so deficient in everything. I’ve been taking Vitamin D, B12, Prebiotics, hair, skin & nail supplement, all along with my numerous medications. I told my Endo that I was taking supplements and she said that was fine.

I've also got Addisons & take supplements, a good company is Healthspan. It is worth getting your thyroid checked as well but make sure that they don't just do TSH, when you have adrenal problems they need to do T3 & T4.
