Hi. I've been taking Levo 50mg for just over a week now and keep getting really strong nausea and moments of dizziness. Is this normal? Anyone else had the same thing?
Levo and nausea?: Hi. I've been taking Levo 50mg... - Thyroid UK
Levo and nausea?
What brand are you taking - Teva, Actavis, Wockhardt, etc?
I'm on Actavis
OK, if you'd have said Teva I would have said that a lot of people get awful side effects with it.
It's only been a week and things may settle down, but you could be reacting to one of the ingredients and may need to change brands.
Do you take your Levo on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food, with a glass of water only?
I've been taking it first thing in the morning and then not having anything other than water for an hour. Wondering if it might be better to take it at night. I felt much better for a couple of days but now feel like it's going back to how I was feeling before. I know it's early days so should probably just wait it out for a bit.
Was your TSH level very high before you started taking levothyroxine? It might be your body adjusting. I don't think it's normal to feel nauseous but I had that reaction to levothyroxine once in the early days. Could you get a telephone apt with a doctor? It might be worth at least registering your concern as it could be a medication reaction as SeasideSusie suggests.
I had terrible nausea and vertigo when taking Levo. It never really settled for me and although I now take NDT it continues to be a problem whenever I have to change my dose and usually settles after about 10 days. I had other problems on Levo as well so stopped taking for those reasons. My GP prescribes me Cyclizine until it settles. I hope it settles for you soon.
Try taking an antihistamine one hour before. If it stops it then it looks like it could be something in the fillers your body doesn't like. If that's the case then you need to change your brand bit once you find one you are happy with then stick to it.
Hi Bleugh
I started my first dose of Levothyroxine today, on Teva 50mg as it’s lactose free.
I hope I don’t suffer after reading SeasideSusie reply about Teva.
Best Wishes

Hi Bleugh, I have just started on Mercury Pharma 50mcg Levo and getting same symptoms. Feel sick, shaky, swimmy head..spoke to GP who suggested I take it every other day.....considering I havent even taken my dose today and still have a Levo "hangover" from yesterday I dont see how thats going to make me feel better.
He has now suggested a lower dose of 25 mcg.
Did your side effects stop, or are you still having a problem?
Thanks
