Since I am on this med I am very slowly gaining weight. I am petite and every ounce shows on me. 2 months and 5 lb later I am about to strangle someone. Can just 25 mg do this

There is no information in your profile and not much to go on in your post here.

Exactly what "med" are you on?

How long have you been on it?

What is your diagnosis?

What are your test results (with reference ranges).

We're happy to comment but need details :)

If you re on 25mcg of levothyroxine it is an extremely low dose. Usual starting dose is 50mcg with blood tests every six weeks with an increase of 25mc each time until TSH is 1 or lower.

I note from SeasideSusie that you've given no background and it will be helpful if youcan.

When you have blood tests for thyroid hormones, it has to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours from your last dose of levo and the test and take it afterwards. This helps TSH to be higher as doctors reduce if it shows too low. I think they are unaware that a TSH of 1 or lower is the aim. They believe anywhare in the range (even 5) is o.k. but we know better.

TSH is higher early a.m. and it reduces durin the day and makes the difference of getting an increase or not.
