Dose reduction: I am new and had my dose reduced... - Thyroid UK
Dose reduction
Good grief, what idiot reduced your dose that much and why?
Maximum a dose should be changed up or down at any one time is by 25mcg
Presumably you have high thyroid antibodies? This is Hashimoto's also called Autoimmune Thyroid disease
Can you post you most recent Thyroid test results including ranges plus, if you have them vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Highly likely you have very low vitamin levels, especially if you have Hashimoto's
Hi endo said he wanted to see how much thyroid hormone I have left in my system and to start again with dose and I have high TPO and TG antibodies will post vitamin and mineral levels now
Also is this GP or Endo management?
Endo
Just as you can’t be de-diagnosed you should NEVER take a dose hit of that much. Can you make an urgent appointment with GP? Anyone in your surgery that appears to understand thyroid issues?
Oh my word. A diabetes specialist? Agree with SlowDragon above re dose alterations.
I looked him up and his title is diabetes and endocrinology so I thought he was a specialist in both?
The pancreas is another gland in the Endocrine System - just like the thyroid and others ....
The above link takes you to the main website of this forum where you can read up on everything Thyroid
Yep that’s what they claim. But as stated above once diagnosed hypo you need the thyroid hormone for life and you should never have your dose reduced so drastically for such ridiculous reasons. Unless there is something that we don’t know, the reasons appear ridiculous from the info we have.
Can you find out you blood test results as we need TSH FT3 and FT4 to be able to advise you in any detail. How long have you had this dose reduction? And when does this diabetes doctor plan to see you again?
Sorry that this is in at the deep end thyroid-wise and welcome to the forum.
I have been on the reduction since October 2017 and the endo plans to see me in another 11 months my GP has said I am undermedicated and wants to talk to me about a dose discrepancy
So after the dose reduction you had a full set of bloods taken 6-8 weeks later with the GP? And that has led your GP to question the endos management. Get to the GP and discuss a dose increase. 25mcg as a dose is for frail patients with issues such as heart problems.
Yes I had thyroid bloods done with GP, they called me to say I am grossly undermedicated and they are questioning the endo's management of my condition
Well thank god for that GP surgery. Get all your records/tests and make sure that you make a formal complaint about your awful care from that endo. They are harming thyroid patients with this approach and don’t know what they are doing. A dose reduction and no further appointment for 11 months!!!!!
Please also consider talking to Thyroid UK about your case as they are interested in gathering information on such mismanagement.
Will post bloods when I see GP
You are entitled to your blood test results online or on paper. Ring your surgery to find out if you can access online. They should read the results to you over the phone and print them for you to collect when you next visit. I would ask for all thyroid results since diagnosed for your records. They may make a small charge for the printing off but not for any other access.
If they read them over the phone you want the test result, unit, and range. My receptionists took 10 minutes to read out my results as didn’t appear to be able to read what was written. Persistence! Search test results on here to see what they might look like.
Once you get everything sorted out perhaps in formal complaint about endo.
Thyroid UK are collecting evidence of malpractice due to terrible thyroid mismanagement
Please consider sending a brief outline of this, once you are on road to recovery
