Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism although my results were borderline TSH 4.88. I was started on 25mcg due to feeling unwell. Always tired, Weight gain, unable to concentrate. I started meds in early October and tbh feel no better. In fact I’d even say that I have got progressively worse, especially with concentration, continually making silly mistakes. And I am so so tired all the time. Just had blood tested again and result has come back ‘normal’ at 3.91
I have previously had Graves although this was 10 years ago.
Not seeing my doctor for another 2 weeks (booked 2 weeks ago and earliest appointment I could get!)
Can anyone advise?
Thanks

25mcg is a low starting dose, usually 50mcg is prescribed then every six weeks a blood test followed by 25mcg incremental doses until symptom-free.
All blood tests have to be at the earliest possible, fasting, and allow a gap of 24 hours from your last dose of levothyroxine and the test and take afterwards. Usually an increase of 25mcg is prescribed each six weeks until you feel well and symptom-free. The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower with Free T3 and Free T4 towards the upper part of the range. These two are rarely tested but I'll give a link and you can read why we believe they are necessary. Also ask for B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be tested.
