The vaginal mesh scandal has claimed its first victim – and she probably won’t be the last

This yahoo article is not directly related to thyroid but it highlights medical incompetence and patronising attitudes when dealing with health issues affecting women. Very much like the problems we are facing with getting the right thyroid treatment or getting diagnosis ...before we die: uk.news.yahoo.com/vaginal-m...

"She joins thousands of women online sharing stories of being sent away, ignored, or having a doctor joke that they should try anal sex or blow jobs instead. The word that comes up most frequently is “hysterical”.

Hysterical woman. What historical resonance that epithet holds. Once a common medical diagnosis with devastating consequences, the male reluctance to acknowledge a women’s pain and to misattribute female health issues is as ancient as medicine itself.

And with all our modern medical advancement, we’re still living in a cultural and medical milieu that has consistently dismissed endometriosis as heavy periods, chronic pain as mere complaining, and female sexuality as simply unimportant. That’s not to mention the persistent ignorance of so many medical professionals (and the public) when it comes to the vagina.

So Chrissy may well not be the first to die. And until things change – until the issue starts to receive the international attention that similar men‘s health scandal undoubtedly would – she probably won’t be the last."

RIP Chrissy

Someone I know had to go privately for her op as NHS would not confirm who would be doing her op & that they would not use mesh. 😠

More have probably passed due to the scandal, but this will be the first high profile death.

I have been fairly fortunate with my chronic pain - I have only encountered 1 doctor in 9 years who didn't believe in my condition. The issue with mesh is that women are saying it's due to the mesh, while the "evidence" says there is no link, and doctors believe studies over patients.

Especially as "patients" are women, therefore exaggerating and hysterical...nothing has changed in thousands of years...

Its very sad indeed this has happened and down to medical incompetance again, i think more and more people are loosing faith in gps and consultants, surgeons. My sister had surgery over a year ago for problems with bowel and bladder and has mesh for both of these problems, just concerned for her.😊
