Graves

Is thyroid eye disease (ted) graves or are they two separate conditions. I’ve only had the peroxidase test done which was normal. I am having a lot of problems with my eyes, swelling, pressure etc. I have been referred to an eye specialist. Any input would be grateful thank you, oh I am hypothyroid and still undermedicated. I am hoping for another increase in 3 weeks.

I have hashimotoes and TED. Apparently it’s about 20% of hashies sufferers that get it. I am taking selenium to help calm it and have gone gluten free. Avoid anyone that smokes and if you do yourself give it up as it affects it badly. X

TED is a separate disease that can occur with both Graves and with hypothyroid

You must be seen by a TED specialist even if it means London and Moorfields not just any old eye consultant

Ah I see. Think they want to check for glaucoma first as I didn’t pass pressure test then I presume they will refer me

presume nothing ..eyesite is precious and you cant afford to ignore or mess with TED

What I’m trying to say is I hope they will refer me if they think I have TED

read up on TED ...google scholar search ...be informed so you can assert yourself and not ket anyone browbeat you ....normally when TED accompanies Graves it settles once Graves is under control but it can be different with hypothyroid
