Thank you for letting me join this group , I Started 25mcg levothyroxine this week, for one week then 50mcg until I see the endo. In February 2018 . Hope this works , don't feel too good at the moment.

It can take a while to find the right dose but you will get there, you just have to take it slowly and be patient. I had RAI years ago and apart from the occasional change in dose I've been absolutely fine, best decision I made 😊

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks bantam12 for the positive reply . I hope so too , it's all a bit scary not knowing what to expect . The endocrinologist don't enlighten us much. It's good to know it worked for you 😊

Welcome to the forum, Cali29.

Ask your GP to do a repeat thyroid test 6-8 weeks after you increase dose to 50mcg as dose may need adjusting. Arrange the blood draw early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) as TSH drops after eating and drinking. Take Levothyroxine after your blood draw.

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.

It takes 7-10 days for Levothyroxine to be absorbed before it starts working and it will take up to six weeks to feel the full impact of the dose. Symptoms may lag behind good biochemistry by several months.
