Do you have a Thyroid issue ? Do you know your VitD level ? If low then you will have lots of aches and pains :-)

Sorry what does OK mean ? - you need the actual result with the range. When Docs say OK they mean IN RANGE - but it is where you are in the range that is important. You are legally entitled to ALL copies of your blood test results ....

I find your predictive text difficult to read :-) A cyst should be investigated .

Ok this was a new doctor running test on me I had blood test and she phoned and said vitamin d ok calcium ok high blood pressure so taking a new tablet my cyst was known to me when I had cancer tests last year but was told looks like a syct I have repeatedly asked for it to be re checked and they don’t seem worried maybe I should ask for a print off of my findings because was not told how high or what ok was,

You are legally entitled to have copies of all your test results with ranges - as labs differ throughout the country.

Jenny1410 As Marz has said, UK patients are entitled to have copies of their blood results, and this is important for a number of reasons. As you've read, Drs consider anywhere within the laboratory reference range as "normal" but normal does not mean right for you, nor optimal, nor that the range is the same in every lab or even country. And of course, a range simply indicates the different situation for different people within a test sample, which by definition means that those people, each had their own different "normals". Additionally, you need to be able to track progress (or deterioration) with or without treatment, and if all you know is that you are remaining in the "normal" range, you won't be able to do this. I don't think there is any statistical relevance to one in ten taking longer to heal; but without the relevant tests, findings, and treatment where necessary, you won't know what condition(s) you are needing to heal from, or manage. Regarding your thyroid cyst, and your present unwellness, it would be sensible for your Dr to carry out a full thyroid panel (although probably only your TSH would be tested); but you wrote that you'd been tested for "this, that, and the other" and mentioned only Vit D and Calcium. What were all the other tests?

Imagine you have three patients A, B and C, and they all have a ferritin test. The reference range at the lab used for the three tests is 13 - 150 ug/L.

A has a result of 13 ug/L

B has a result of 85 ug/L (i.e. roughly mid-range)

C has a result of 150 ug/L

All three patients are likely to be told by doctors that their results are "fine" or "okay" or "normal".

But I can guarantee that, if these patients aren't sick with anything else, then the one who will feel best is likely to be Patient B with the mid-range ferritin. The one who will feel worst is Patient A with bottom of the range ferritin.

This is why people are told on this forum that test results and ranges are essential so that we can check what the doctor thinks is "okay", and (hopefully) do something about the ones that aren't optimal.

[Please note that "optimal" depends on what is being measured. Optimal isn't always mid-range.

Also please note that ferritin is stored iron. It isn't a good idea to supplement iron just on the basis of a ferritin test - iron is much more complicated than that!]
