If hashimotos just underactive thyroid is it still classed as auto immune?

Hi

Your thyroid can be under active for different reasons.cancer, trauma etc.

If Hashimotos causes your under active thyroid then this is because your immune system has become confused and attacks the thyroid gland. This is an auto immune disease. You can have your blood tested for anti bodies to see if it is hashimotos but treatment is the same.

Many people find going gluten free helps significantly to reduce anti bodies and inflammation.

If caused any other way it is not auto immune.

I don't have antibodies just underactive thyroid, already gluten free due to intolerance. I guess mine is just lazy then lol thank you

I have had a underactive thyroid for over sixty odd years, mine is just lazy, does not produce enough. I'am also gluten free due to having colitis.
