Advice please - High TSH but feeling hyper.

Hi I’m looking for advice please. My TSH was 3.2 (1-4 range) so all ok on 17th September, I’m taking 50 mg levothyroxine. I’ve been having palpitations for a few weeks but nothing significant however for 2 days I was having dizzy spells, anxiety, breathlessness, headaches and palpitations. I was convinced I was over-medicated/hyper.

I had an appointment with the endocrinologist & blood taken. I haven’t taken my levo for the past 3 days & my symptoms have greatly improved. No breathlessness or headaches & the dizziness & palpitations are subsiding. The endo has just rang with my blood result & my TSH is 5.4 so he’s recommended upping my levo to 75mg. I’m so surprised by this as I feel so much better since not taking my levo. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this or can offer an explanation as to what might be happening. Thanks.

Extremely common she very under medicated to have hyper type symptoms

Suggests you have low vitamin levels. Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested?

If not ask GP to do so. Always get actual results including ranges

If you have then add results to your post

It is very common to feel better stopping Levo initially, but it gets rapidly much worse.

Make sure to always have same brand of Levo, once you have one that suits you.

If you started on Teva, perhaps try a different brand

Always take Levo on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after. Many take on waking others find bedtime better or more convenient

Get blood tests to recheck after 6-8 weeks on 75mcgs

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take any Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after

Not what you're looking for?
