Hashi and gluten
I'm not Hashi's nor am I gluten-free , but many members with Hashi's have found that being gluten free helps enormously
In my opinion when you go gluten free you feel better because you stoped eating processed food and carbs like bread pasta or cereals .of course you will loose weight and feel better and that's very good
Im for now improving with probiotics and adrenal support ,I guess a little bit of everything is helping ..
Hi - many of us hashis are actually gluten intolerant, but not all. In my case I had sometimes been getting bad IBS symptoms for years, along with bad indigestion & heartburn. I put it all down to stress. When diagnosed hashis, I stopped gluten as recommended & also dairy due to having had a recent change in diet that seemed to trigger an attack of fatigue. It didn't seem to make an obvious difference as I hadn't previously had gastro symptoms in a while. But about 4vmonths later I accidentally had both gluten and dairy a couple of weeks apart. Now I got symptoms! I had indigestion, a splitting headache and mild flu like symptoms for a few days as well as gastro problems.
So I am convinced and no it is not due to lack of carbs or processed foods but a direct connection to the gluten and dairy. Those 4 months allowed my insides to heal and hence there is now more healthy tissue available for all normal functions as well as to show a reaction.
It's definitely worth a trial.

I was never expecting to have to go GF but tests showed I needed to for auto immune thyroid issues. It isnt just a case of swapping to GF flour or food. Not saying that is what has happened .. but I find many don't know. Contamination matters. Very small amounts matter. Change baking tins/plastic utensils and bowls/wooden utensils/ chopping boards etc that have been used for gluten. It can take 6 months to start to be better. You cant just cut down and then have an odd lapse.
Even getting Buckwheat flour from a place where wheat is milled in the same place can be contamination.
Much easier to deal with though now I have found Shipton Mill have a separate mill for GF flours ... and they deliver for a small price, or free if you order a certain amount. River cottage GF book excellent.
Gluten free summit on web, with lots of world wide experts gave me a good understanding.. would recommend.
Hi Catherine - yes to the gluten but also to wheat in general ! If I fall off the wagon and succumb to toast and butter 😋 I can feel the ill effects within 24hours ! I've Hashimotos (everlasting antibodies !) and Pernicious Anaemia (again - constant antibodies) also Sojgerns, although it's yet to be confined ?I'm a walking Antibody 😂
I'm try lots of different food avoidances and/or supplements so I'll post again when I find what has helped...... or not. I've bad acid reflux which wakens me out of a sleep at night ! Acid down into my windpipe and choking ! 😨 Awful ! It's all part and parcel of the P.A.

I went totally gluten free two years ago and have watched my thyroid antibodies plummet, I started gluten free as an experiment and once I watched the antibodies go nothing would make me go back to wheat. I was also used to catering for Coeliac friends so I didn't find it very difficult, you just have to read the labels on everything you are thinking of buying. Ours is pretty much a gluten free household now. Like you I have several autoimmune conditions I've got Graves Disease rather than Hashis though but it's still antibodies that are the problem.
I'm Gluten free for 2 years and have seen my celiac/coeliac antibodies drop/normalise. It never seemed to help my thyroid antibodies. When you go gluten free you need to substitute other forms of energy/fiber. So for me as an example, bread went and was replaced with fried or baked potato. I also eat heaps of prunes, dried apricots, nuts, dried peaches, unflavored yogurt, sultanas, baby spinach( sun dried tomato's, baby spinach 150gm, gluten-free bacon, 4 eggs, cheese omelette for break every day) Take a plate of last nights dinner cold to work and reheat for lunch. Gluten free you will lose weight if you stay away from sugar/sugar substitutes and products with added sugar. Sugars in fruit is fine because you can only eat for example 1 -2 apples a day but you can drink 6 -7 apples in a glass of juice.
