Timings

I'm on block and replace for Graves. I take levo first thing in the morning, waiting an hour before my first drink. An hour after my first drink I take carbimazole and propanalol with food and another drink. Do you think I've got my timings right?

Levothyroxine is taken with one full glass of water usually first thing, on an empty stomach or last thing at bedtime. There should be a gap of 1 hour between taking levo and food and there should be 4 hours gap between supplements.

Those who've had Graves will respond.

Propranolol reduces the effectiveness of levo and it affects conversion of T4 to T3 although I understand it is to reduce palpitations.

Thank you shaws. I take propanalol because I still feel anxious, more so when the carbimazole made me under active. To be fair this has lessened since I've started levothyroxine. I'll try a day without propanalol and see how I go.

More advice from anyone who's been on the block and replace treatment would be greatly appreciated x

Hi 437jd. May I ask, if you are Hyperthyroid, why do you wish to go on Block and Replace treatment instead of taking Carbimazole and Propranolol alone? How long you have Hyperthyroid? I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroid/Graves three months ago. I only take Carbimazole and Propranalol. It helps.

Hi Ist863, I've been on holiday hence the late reply. Yes I am/was hyperthyroid but carbimazole brought my levels into range -almost hypothyroid, So now I've started on levothyroxine because keeping on carb alone will still keep blocking my production making me hypothyroid - so the levo gives me a set amount and the carb stops my over production. I've got Graves too. I'm 4 months in. Hope that makes sense! X please feel free to correct me anyone ha ha
