Can a 7 year old have overactive Thyroid? I ask this because my granddaughter is always getting poorly, high temperature, nausea. She is very active and then gets unwell.
I have a real reason for wondering if her Thyroid is okay. Family history is my mother had underactive Thyroid, as did I. bot took years to diagnose. My mother in law had overactive Thyroid and at 15, my daughter was diagnosed with overactive Thyroid. When she was little, she was very much like her daughter (my grandaughter who is the 7 year old, that we are concerned about. When I took her to the doctors when she was a little girl who was regularly under par, it was not investigated. I had to really press the doctor to test her Thyroid when she was 15. In fact, we were a bit at loggerheads over it. The doctor was very surprised when the results came back from the hospital.

I know very little about paediatric thyroid disorders - and would not wish to speculate. The link below shows several hundred papers about thyroid in children. Many are behind paywalls but even the abstracts might give you a hint of the possibilities.
I think it should be sorted out anyway and. Ertainly make sure the doctor knows the family history. I only know there are paediatric specialists in thyroid conditions and that ranges are different for children but I'm sure a search engine will find more info butcyou really need to get treatment started if that is diagnosed.
If it is of any help my sister was very much like you describe your grandaughter- from a very early age. Stick thin, ate well and never ever seemed to stay still. Always anxious and fretful. Would 'crash and burn' afterwards.
'Back in the day' we thought she was an over active child, you know; full of beans and excessive with everything and so it goes. These days she would have been labelled with ADHD tag. Fast forward to her twenties - after many visits to her GP with 'non-specific' complaints, menstrual irregularities, difficulty conceiving and finally after experiencing hear palpitations and a visit to A&E was she diagnosed with Graves.
Our Grandmother had Cushings Disease; Uncle with acromegaly and cousin with growth hormone problems....So, obviously, auto-immunity has been noticeably prevalent in our family (which, I believe does predispose other family members) . I am not medically trained and obviously don't wish to diagnose as everyone is different- but, it doesn't sound out of the ordinary that your grandaughter might be a candidate...even at 7 years of age.
I understand your frustration and angst regarding a diagnosis at such an early age - its difficult enough when older. That said, if you yourself suffer and your daughter too, you will recognise the symptoms she's displaying.
