Weight gain is a clinical symptom of hypothyroidism so you need the doctor to prescribe levothyroxine for you and you take a pill once every morning on an empty stomach.
Ask GP for a blood test for hypothyroidism. It has to be the very earliest possible and don't eat before it. I don't think you are taking levothyroxine but if you are take it after the blood test.
Get a print-out of your results from the surgery and they must have the ranges stated as well as the results and put them on a new post for comments. Ranges are the numbers in the brackets.
