Do you have a thyroid problem ?

You may have to see your doctor so that he can examine you throat. It needs someone with medical knowledge.

As Marz has said - are you hypothyroid as hoarseness can be a clinical symptom but the fact that you choked on cereal is serious and warrants an exam by a professional person.

I'm thinking I would go to the doctor if it were me. Are you unable to go, or just rather not?

Sounds like you have abrased yourself - and it is now very very sore - but............as others are saying - you had better go to a Dr as you may have something still there - if he finds nothing but abrasion and leaves you to your own devices - go to Holland and Barrett and get some Vitamin C and zinc lozenges and suck them - they should heal any abrasions - like a sore throat - which these are taken for. They are not expensive - in a bright orange bottle ..............that should do the trick.

I suffer something similar when I'm in need of a meds increase. I used to get regularly before diagnosis but it's got better since. My throat is so dry that talking just makes me cough to the point of being sick and wetting myself all at the same time. I've not been to the dr at this time due to talking causing issues if I have a voice to speak with. Things that helped, lots of hot drinks, honey and lemon unfortunately triggered coughing. Wet food, soup, stew, porridge etc. If you do get to the dr ask if you get your throat scanned to see if it's a pressure thing from the thyroid, I think that's my problem. Maybe you could get someone to speak for you at the Drs? My experience ranges from a few days to a month of not being able to speak.

Hi bobbi, I just discovered how many organs the vagus nerve controls. The nerve is part of the brain stem and goes to many organs from there. I had no idea that it had so much to do with your palate and throat and not sure how it relates to the thyroid but it probably does. Look into injured vagus nerve.
