Hi.Anyone could help me.My tsh is 0.05 (0.35-4.94) Ft4 of 12.7 (9.0-19.1) I am on my 125mcqs Eltroxin.Endocrinologst said my dose is ok given Ive no thyroid gland,maybe hormonal changes.But my gp said reduce down to 100 mcgs.Getting confused who to follow.Getting extremely tired.(25 weeks pregnant).Thanks a mil.

I wouldn't drop down. The Endo is the one who is looking after you, particularly if pregnant and baby needs thyroid hormones too.

When you give results of your tests, it is helpful to put the ranges (figures are in brackets) the reason being that labs differ and so do the ranges which help members respond.

Have you had a blood test since the one above? Others who have had a thyroidectomy will respond too.

Blood tests have to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and test and take afterwards. This is helpful as it may stop a reduction in dose which we don't want.

Ask GP to test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate too as we can be deficient.

Hi I edited my post and included the normal ranges of tsh and FT4.My endo is from the country I had my surgery,luckily she responds through email.I am referred to endo here where I live but unfortunately the waiting period here to be seen by specialist is from 6 months to 1 yr,in short I havent seen yet.Im not really sure if my gp is knowledgeable enuf abour thyroid conditions.Thanks for the info by the way.😊

I think your GP has reduced your dose as he thinks your TSH is too low. Many make this mistake.

Levothyroxine is T4 only. It has to convert to T3. T3 is the only Active Thyroid Hormone and it is required in the billions of receptor cells in our bodies.

He should not have reduced your dose because by doing so he is reducing your T3. T3 is the only active thyroid hormone required in our receptor cells and I believe that you should have combination therapy, i.e. T4 and T3 prescribed (levothyroxine - liothyronine) as you have no thyroid gland whatsoever.

You have to get your Free T4 and Free T3 bloods tested. Doctor or labs wont usually do these usually in the NHS. You can get a private one from our recommended labs. Blue Horizon or Medichecks.

You don't need to see a Specialist if you are on the correct amount of hormones. All of the following you need and post for comments.

The blood tests you need are:-

TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.

GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. You need optimum medication for a healthy pregnancy.

If yr in UK there's a FB site UK Without A Thyroid. There's a lady there that was been carefully monitored through her pregnancy by a very good endo. It deff needs someone that knows what they're doing regards thyroid. Don't follow yr gp, they don't know enough.

You are past the most vulnerable stage of pregnancy - knowledgeable doctors keep your TSH below 2 to aid conception and prevent miscarriage. That is why they give you thyroid tests in pregnancy. So a low TSH is good.

You are under the care of a specialist so your GP should not be interfering with the specialist's treatment plan. 125mcg Eltroxin is not a high dose for a patient without a thyroid gland.
