Feeling rubbish
Hi sorry to hear that. Sometimes it takes a while to get the dose right . I've been taking thyroxine for years and levels are still fluctuating . Hopefully you can get the doseage sorted soon
BevIrvine It's early days and you will need retesting and dose increases at 6 weekly intervals until you find your optimal dose and your symptoms abate.
Have you had a follow up test since starting Levo? It's normal to retest 6-8 weeks after starting Levo then continue as mentioned. If you've not yet had a retest, book one ASAP. When having thyroid tests, always book the earliest appointment of the day, fast overnight (water allowed) and leave off Levo for 24 hours. This gives the highest possible TSH which is needed when looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction. Do this every time so that conditions are always the same, that way you can accurately compare results in the future.
Take your Levo on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food, with water only, no tea, coffee, etc., and away from other medication and supplements by two hours (four hours for some).
That is a perfectly normal reaction. It just means you need an increase in dose. When you get to your ideal dose, that won't happen. You should be tested six weeks after starting a dose, not left for three months, because then you're bound to start feeling bad again.
Thank you, I have had a blood test since and came back good, at that point I was feeling great, this started last week. Had a cold too will that knock it about too ?
Oh, colds can knock you for six, when you're hypo! And can go on for ages. I always used to feel homicidal when people said 'it's only a cold'! Only, I didn't have the energy to do anything about it. lol But, it does get better when you're optimally medicated. I haven't had a cold for years.
But, how long ago did you have that test? Do you have the actual numbers? Because 'good' is just an opinion, and if it's your doctor's opinion, it could be wrong. We always need to get a print-out of the results. And, besides, you could still need an increase in dose now, even if the last test was really good.
Thank you, I will ask doc tmw for the actual numbers, helps what u said about cold, that's exactly how I've been feeling, just keep napping. What's your opinion of taking meds at night? Read something thought was worth a try 🤔
Probably need an increased dose. Are all your vitamins optimal? Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin? Very important.
Have you had thyroid antibodies checked too?
