I'm got to go for a blood test first thing tomorrow morning. Do I take my medication before or shall I wait till I've had my test

Soph43 Take your Levo after the blood draw. There should be a gap of 24 hours between Levo and blood draw. Also fast overnight ( you can have water).

Hello, just saw your post. I believe you should not take your thyroid medication for 24 hours before your test. Here is a thread on this topic from this board healthunlocked.com/thyroidu.... Is there a chance that you could call your doctor to ask to be certain? Maybe he or she would want you to hold off on taking any thyroid or other medications for a bit longer than 24 hours.

Cobalamin - very few doctors would say to leave off Levo before a blood test. It's a patient to patient tip :)

Thank you Seaside! I understand now :) I am dealing with pernicious anemia and so far everything I've learned about that has been from others who have it. Very few doctors can be helpful it seems. All the best to you!

OK, well you still need to leave a gap.

It's said 24 hours for T4 and 12 hours for T3, so as Nature Throid is a combo med then you have to decide how long to leave.

Leaving 24 hours will give an artificially low FT3, leaving 12 hours will give a higher than usual FT4.

Is this a GP test? If so is your GP aware that you take Nature Throid? Are you having FT3 tested?

SeasideSusie it's a gp test so not the best. No I've not told them yet

It's likely to be TSH and FT4 at best, just TSH at worst. It's very unlikely that FT3 will be done unless either of those others come back way off. In your shoes I would be leaving your NDT off for 24 hours I think.

Whatever you do, your results probably won't be what your GP is expecting.
