Optimal for what?

Sorry I wasn't very clear lol. I have hypothyroidism and the symptoms are a nightmare. I have always Bern told that after blood test I am "within range" but I've now learned that there's better "optimal"

OK. Well, we all have our own sweet spot which can be different from someone else's.

The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below and the Ft4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges. So without the ranges that your lab uses we can't give you any numbers for FT4 and FT3 where you might feel best.

Do you have any previous test results? Always ask for a print out and ensure that the reference ranges are included.

Do you have any vitamin and mineral test results? These are important and need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work. Ask for

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Thanks. I got the test for them last week and this is what the app is for to discuss them

Recommended levels for vitamins and minerals (despite what your GP may say, they think just being somewhere in the range is fine, even if it's only one point above the bottom!) -

Vit D - 100-150nmol/L

B12 - very top of range, even 900-1000. Anything under 500 can cause neurological problems.

Folate - at least half way through it's range

Ferritin - half way through it's range with an absolute minimum of 70 for thyroid hormone to work (our own or replacement)

Your GP wont prescribe supplements to achieve these levels. If you are deficient you may be prescribed just enough to bring you within range then you are on your own I'm afraid.
