Confusion reigns...

Just recently I have seen two opposing views on adrenals. The first is that adrenals (adrenal deficiency?) must be addressed before thyroid treatment. The second view is that you can do them both at the same time.

Now then. On the basis that I read time and again that it can take years to fix flagging adrenals; how is it that the advice to do this first can be valid? Especially if one's thyroid is being attacked by antibodies and one has a TSH of 5,000,000.

I am doing them both at the same time. It may be wrong, but I don't want to be drooping around like a soggy cornflake for a hundred years - anymore than I already am, of course.

Both methods are right

If the patient has low adrenals they should be treated for a week or two before thyroid hormone replacement is initiated.

If the patient is already being treated with thyroid hormone replacement Dr.P will suggest stopping thyroid replacement for 2 weeks while initiating adrenal support then reinstating thyroid replacement. Other practitioners take the view that adrenals will improve when taking thyroid replacement and see no need to halt thyroid replacement when initiating adrenal support.

steviecat will just throw into the mix that treating the adrenals did not work for me, in fact i became really poorly when taking Nutri Adrenal.

Didn't Dr Skinner believe that by taking thyroid meds the adrenals would improve?
