Hi everyone,

I have a concern that Im willing to share with you guys today. And Im hopping Ill get some helpful guidlines on that.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid for many years And I used to take levothytoxine. Half a pill everyday 30 min before breakfast. About few months ago my Primary doctor asked me to check my thyroid And So She said my thyroid is in normal shape And She basically asked me to stop taking the pills. she Also mentioned that once I stop taking my pills, Ill start gaining some weight Since I was very much skinny(height 5'7" with 112lbs) And worry about my Health And i was Also dealing with a high level of stress Which was very much frustrating for me even while attemting to talk to normal people at work. Now after about 4-5 months, Im Still the same No weight increase As Well As same level of stress.

I would apprecaite Any idea or comments

This statement seems quite strange to me:-

my Primary doctor asked me to check my thyroid And So She said my thyroid is in normal shape And She basically asked me to stop taking the pills.

I am assuming you were diagnosed as hypothyroid when someone prescribed levothyroxine for you? As far as I know, once hypothyroid always hypothyroid and it is a lifetime of replacement hormones.

First thing I'd do is request a new blood test for thyroid hormones. Ask if you can have a Full Thyrid Function Test, i.e. TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. The GP or lab may not do them all as the belief is that all that is needed is TSH and T4. Also ask for B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be tested too. Any tests not done can be made through one of our recommended labs.

How long have you stopped levothyroxine?

The blood test has to be the earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water). If you were taking thyroid hormones you'd allow a 24 hour gap between last dose and test.

Get a print-out of your results, with the ranges and post on a new question for comments.

Thank you for the promt answer.

Ive stopped taking levothytoxine once my doctor informed me that Im in a Good shape after reveiwing my blood test about 6 months ago.

Ive got an apointment with my doctor today again. I have Taken many test over the last 6-7 month. But this time Ill ask her to write me an order for another blood test, this time including all those you were refering to.

Thanks

That's quite unusual to tell a patient to stop taking levothyroxine. Yes, get all the tests you can you cannot possibly be hypothyroid and not take a replacement hormone. If you are hypothyroid other problems could arise if you don't take hormones.

It rather suggests you didn't have a problem in the first place and if you did then the dose was too little to help. Do importsnt youbget the tests done and share them with us to comment when more informed. Don't forget the ranges as well as they differ from lab to lab.
