Didn't the endo test the FT4 and FT3? If not, he has no idea if your thyroid levels are 'normal'.
Yes but in December free t4 14.5 and free t3 3.5
It's something that should be done every time.
And they were both low then.
Yes, they were! They should have been tested again to assess your progress. The TSH on its own is useless. Another useless endo. Sigh.
T4 and t3 are low readings ? They are within the ranges but perhaps not optimal?
Actually, now you come to mention is, Barfida didn't give any ranges. But, that FT3 certainly looks very low.
It's not just a case of being in range, it's where in the range they fall - the ranges are too wide. Most people on thyroid hormone replacement (which makes all the difference) need them somewhere up the top of the range - or even slightly over.
Because 'optimal' is not a question of a result in a range, 'optimal' is how you feel. When all your symptoms have gone, then your dose is optimal - and don't let any doctor ever tell you any different! We're all different, and we all need different levels. You, you might feel great at mid-range. But, someone else might need their FT3 slightly over-range.
Barfida , can you give us the ranges, please?
Yes of cOurse as follows
T4 9.00-19.00pmol/L
T3 2.6-5.70pmol/L
The trouble is is getting my go to listen! I had a job even getting my t3 an t4 levels checked and now the endo agrees with him will make it more difficult. 😣
Ahhh, that's an unusual range for FT3, so it's not as low as I thought it was. Still, obviously too low for you.
Please, always put the ranges, it can change everything.
Barfida,
TSH 0.58 is low normal now so 100mcg appears to be the right dose. TSH level being low doesn't guarantee good FT4 and FT3 so you may want to check these. You can order a private FT4 and FT3 thyroid test via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testig...
The tests ordered will show whether you have coeliac disease (intolerance to gluten), diabetes or B12, folate or vitamin D deficiency.
Thank you clutter I am waiting on those tests this week to see if I have any deficiencies. My main issues are visible leg swelling and I've noticed that on tea brand I don't get as much joint pain but on activist I do.the swelling doesn't change unless I am warm and moving around it then increases . I also suffer with nasal congestion . I have been tested for gluten intolerance by the gp but it was negative? Maybe the tests are not accurate?
The link doesn't work 😟
Barfida,
The coeliac test isn't very accurate and you have to eat normal amounts of gluten for up to six weeks prior to testing to have any chase of an accurate result.
