Anti Tg is high

I have taken Anti tg test and it shows up 200 IU/ml. But normal range is mentioned differently in different websites. Reference range is displayed < 4.11. Some says 116UI/ml and few states less than 40. Could anyone suggest on this. What is the impact of this high range. What will be the steps to taken to reduce and how long it will take.

It means you have Thyroid antidbodies, meaning you have Hashimoto's. Has your doctor not spoken to you about this finding?

The reading itself isn't suuuuper high, it just means you have enough anti-bodies to your thyroid tissue to be considered to have Hashimoto's. I personally have never tested under 400 and currently my reading is at 1000. Many members have different things they try to bring down their antibodies (doctors aren't interested in anti-body count), as you can tell I'm not winning that battle myself, so if your are interested there's a lot of info on this forum. You can use the search bar to find info. And by the same token asking questions on this forum will often produce a lot of good results, from knowledgable members.

I'm sure other (more knowledgable) members will chime in soon.

All the best!

Were you not given a range with the results? There's no point in looking at ranges on internet, you need to interpret by the range of the machine that was used to test it.

However, at 200, it does look like you are positive for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (doctors call it Autoimmune thyroiditis). Your doctor won't do anything about it - might even deny you have it, despite the reading. There is no cure. But, there are things you can do.

Firstly, you need your TSH at zero. The less gland activity there is, the less antibody activity. Are you on thyroid hormone replacement? How much? Do you have results for your TSH and FT4?

Secondly, you can try a 100% gluten-free diet. This may make you feel better by reducing the antibodies, and thereby the symptoms caused by the antibodies.

Thirdly, you can try taking selenium to lower antibodies. This also helps with conversion.

Those are the results of your thyroid function tests. But, we still need the ranges. Except for the TSH, that is much too high and says you are hypo, but your doctor wouldn't know that s/he is waiting for it to get to ten, probably.

But, for your antibodies. Were you not given a range - a maximum over which you are positive for Hashi's? You need the ranges that belong to the machines that were used to do the tests, not some random range picked out from internet. :)

My anti tg is 200.8 the given range is <4.11. Previously i had Tsh 11.4 and after taking thyoxine it reduced to 3.84

OK, so it's still too high. You need an increase in dose.

If the top of the range is 4.11, then you are positive for Hashi's. And you need your TSH suppressed.

Not what you're looking for?
