I'm sorry you have Insomnia and it is one of the clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism. I shall give you a list and you will be surprised at how many symptoms there are.

I should have said it usually resolves as you reach an optimum of hormones and if not maybe a little T3 would assist.

Sleeping requires energy, untreated hypothyroidism could possibly lead to insomnia, because you just don't have energy to sleep properly.

Simple :D

One finnish doctor said it and in the end does make sense.

When at my most hypothyroid, I had a strong tendency to wake up after an hour or so and be unable to get back to sleep.

Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism cause many of our processes to perform less well than they should. It isn't really surprising if we see the same issues occurring whichever we suffer from.

missthyroid, I reaize this is an old thread, but I was wondering if your insomnia resolved itself as I am going through the same thing. I truly hope that it has and you are sleeping once again. I am trying to get my levels optimal and hope that will help me sleep once again.

Hi maymay

Sorry to hear of your troubles sleeping

Have you looked up adrenal fatigue we need to look at why we got low thyroid in the first place and one reason if insomnia is a symptom can be adrenal fatigue

I have found that the herb Ashwaganda for adrenal fatigue helps me get better chance of sleep I have good days and bad days but the Ashwaganda is very helpful

thanks for your response. I am working on the adrenals now. my doctor thinks I have low cortisol, but I am going to take saliva test and blood to be sure. I have some ashwaganda but thought it was only to lower cortisol.

Hi maymay ashwagandha is an adaptogen so if cortisol low it will raise it if high it will lower it
