50 sounds like a starter dose, do you know your TSH FT3 and FT4 levels? I've read that many people can't lose weight until their T3 level is corrected, also working out uses up what T3 you have in your body and would actually therefore cause you gain weight if your T3 levels are too low.

From my experience it took me 2-3 months of being gluten and soy free and having my dose raised to 100mcg Levo before weight started coming off, then it came of quick for me. Eventually I went of dairy, and full AIP diet and then it reeeaaalllyy started coming off. I found that diet accounted for 90% of it for me, whereas the amount of medication not so much (I have suboptimal levels for a year now).

Stick to the diet because it takes time for your body to re-adjust, at some point your metabolism should technically kick in once it lines up with the new diet.

Thank you for your advice, I have had to push to get my doctor to increase me to 50 as she said I was borderline, she started me on 25. Perhaps I should stop eating dairy but goodness what do you eat?! Feel very fat very deprived and very fed up! 😝

Well there are many healthier choices over dairy, unfortunately they're not all as tasty! But dairy might not be your issue, we're all different.

I think if you give a better picture of your circumstances some members might have an easier time helping you. You say you're borderline hypo, do you have Hashimoto's? Have you been tested for antibodies? And do you have any other thyroid test results? It's hard to really know what's going on without that information.

If you are borderline hypo there's a chance it's unrelated to that, could be diet, or some other condition. Personally I have had a high TSH and low Ft3/FT4 results all year (definitely not borderline), many members say you can't lose weight until these numbers are perfect, however since last march I lost 50lbs on diet alone so we don't all fit in this perfect box, we're all different. I know for me it's diet, I've cheated a few times to test it (once recently for 2 days) every single time the weight comes rushing back, what takes you a week to lose can come back in just a day... so it's mostly about self control I think.

So, as the others have said, get copies of your labs. It's so very important to know exactly what was tested and exactly what the results were. You are only on a tiny dose, and your doctor doesn't seem to know much about thyroid, so you have got to take charge of your own health.

You will have problems keeping your T3 levels up when on only 50 mcg T4, so all that running will seriously deplete it, and could make you put more weight on.

Diet may or may not help you, we're all different. But, whatever you eat, make sure you eat enough of it. Low-calorie diets will negatively affect your conversion. It might help you to give up dairy, but you'll only know if you try it. If it doesn't help, go back to eating it. Gluten-free might also help. Try it for three months. If it doesn't help, go back to eating it. It's all trial and error. But, one thing is certain, running isn't going to help. Just gentle walking, yoga or swimming until you're optimally treated.
