Antibody Tests.

Morning all,

I just need to ask those that know..

I've been symptomatic (Hyper) for a little while now, and I'm having a phone consultation with the doctor sometime today.

When I was first treated for Hyperthyroidism/Graves, no blood tests were done to give a definitive diagnosis. Therefore, with the symptoms that I had prior to going in to hospital, it looked to me as if I had had a Hashimotos flare up, although, as I said, no antibody tests were done.

I'm going to ask the doctor, today, to do these tests for me, but which do I ask for to give a definite diagnosis of Graves or Hashimotos?

I know that they're expensive to do, and it's a big ask, but I'd just like to know for sure what I'm dealing with before being treated again - and that I'm on the right track to better health!

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks Clutter. I've re read it 4times, and I think I understand it?!

It seems that a diagnosis of Graves or Hashimotos will be quite difficult, as when I was hospitalised I was treated for Graves due to the symptoms at that time.

There isn't treatment for Graves or Hashimoto's. Treatment was for hyperthyroidism. Antibody testing will simply tell you whether the hyperthyroidism was autoimmune ie Graves.

It is sinking in slowly - I think.

So therefore, the antibodies will really only confirm an autoimmune disorder, and the treatment is according to the hyper or hypo state?

The doctor has ordered TSH, T3 and T4, and also TPO antibodies.
