After having Hashimotos for a number of years, I have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Is there any connection?

oesophageal cancer
I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope it was discovered early and is treatable.
I don't know whether Hashi's would increase your risk of oesophageal cancer. But I can see how hypothyroidism itself could raise your risk.
One of the problems that arises with hypothyroidism is a reduction in stomach acid. This increases the risk of/causes acid reflux. Exposing the oesophagus to stomach acid on a regular basis will increase your risk of cancer.
I'm not too sure how much of a link there is but you may find articles on line although whether they are backed up by scientific evidence I just don't know.
The most important thing right now is that you focus on getting well. I hope that you have some wonderful support around you as you face your treatment.
Im sending you all good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks to everyone. I have a lot of family support. Unfortunately it is unoperable. I have just undergone 2 weeks of radiotherapy...not much fun. I have read that Low Dose Naltrexone fights cancer I the same way it fights auto immune disease. If any one has information re LDN does this I would be grateful. Apparently it is important to schedule the doses with breaks to increase its effectiveness. I would like to know more about this breaks regime
