Newbie - guidance on how to get tested for hypothyroidism and what to expect?

Hi, my name is Catherine/ cathy

I am almost 18 and I previously suffered from anorexia for 2 yrs but have recovered in weight considerably fast: however,

recently (as in the last 7 months) I have been feeling consistently tired though I have no trouble sleeping and abnormal hair loss as well as muscle aches and slight hypoglycaemia possibly anaemia?

It has made it very difficult in everyday life as people joke about how I'm always sleepy and even though I eat everything in moderation and exercise about 30 mins a day/ alternate day I really don't know what to do! It's very frustrating :c

I would love to hear your opinions on whether it's worth testing for hypothyroidism as I don't like blood tests.....but if that could explain what's happenned I would be grateful.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, Cathy111.

Anorexia can induce hypothyroidism and your symptoms could be due to low thyroid levels so it is worth asking your GP to check. Your symptoms could be due to low/deficient vitamins and minerals so ask your GP to check ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate could be checked at the same time to avoid further 'needling'.

Arrange the thyroid blood test early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) because TSH drops after eating and drinking.
