Birmingham Thyroid Clinic

Hi all,

Before posting this message, I searched HealthUnlocked to see if there were other posts about the clinic. There were a couple but not much information... plus they were from a couple of years ago.

Does anyone have an update? Is this private clinic any good or just a waste of time and money?

Thanks

Kim

The only difference i found was that i got seen quicker than i would on the NHS. not sure if i can name the endo on here but i asked him for a thyroid scan due to having neck pain and he said i didnt need one even though i would have been paying for it.

Thanks Joyce. That's what I was afraid of... that I would spend money and not really have a better result. I'm not sure why doctors are so against doing more investigating and testing, especially if someone is offering to pay!! Why couldn't he run the test... even if it is just to give you peace of mind?

If I'd listened to my doctor, I'd be seeing a psychologist and taking anti-depressants because she was refusing to check for Hashimoto's. In her opinion it was unlikely I had it. I kept pushing (as my sister had it) and finally she ran the test and it was positive. Who are doctors to decide that you probably don't have something without checking first! So frustrating.

Thats what my dr keeps doing referring me to mental health (3 times this year) then the mental health team refer me back to the gp so i get no-where as every-one passes the buck. my cousin had half her thyroid removed last year and our mums who were sisters both had thyroid problems too.

That's terrible. Keep pushing... maybe find a new doctor and ask to see an Endo. At least then you'll get the right tests done!

I saw an endo a few weeks ago and she just fobbed me off told me to forget about my thyroid and get on with life. Ive requested a second opinion and have found a consultant who will see me as long as i get a referral letter from gp.
