I've never seen an official reference range for TSH of 0.2-8.0 μIU/ml. Eye-watering and scary!

HB,

Someone posted earlier with TSH 9.21 but no treatment!

Doctors used to be held in high esteem. When did they become sadists? *Holds head in hands*

HB,

When they started rigidly adhering to guidelines/blood tests instead of being guided by them in conjunction with clinical symptoms?

Very likely. Since guidelines and blood tests became the the only thing that mattered doctors no longer seem to bother learning symptoms of different problems. I'll never forget reading on here a post from a member who was told that fatigue wasn't a symptom of hypothyroidism. It makes me feel a bit weepy just thinking about that.

HB,

I'm still cross with myself for saying NO! when my lovely trainee GP asked whether I'd lost much hair when I meant YES!   I had a bag of hair I was going to put in the garden for birds to nest with :(

Given this situation I don't like to think what state I'd be in now without this forum. Now that I have been helped to source good quality reasonably priced T3 & NDT online I no longer feel held hostage to this mindset.Thank heavens for TUK & the internet.

Thank you admins for your patience & commitment.

Pastille,

The letter refers to changes in the USA ref ranges.  It won't be helpful to UK patients.

I'm still printing it. I need all the help I can get when I next see my gp. I have to explain why I have increased my dose from 100mcg to 125 mcg and I don't think it's going to be too easy. So I will take TUK link printout of TSH levels and anything else I can find ( do my own presentation in gp office )

Good luck xx00x00

Although the results weren't as low as you have quoted, similar studies on Norwegians have shown up median levels of TSH between 1.3 and 1.7, the number rising with age.
