I lost a lot of weight on T3, in fact part of my life I was even obese and now I am normal. Hypothyroidism made me fat not overeating but hardly anyone believed me. Not even my friends and family, not to mention doctors. That's why I have selfmedicate, but I proved them all how wrong they were.

Don't give up, fight for yourself as doctors won't do this for you. They also don't understand that not being properly treated can result in being fat, even obese. I lived through all this, but there is always a chance to get better and lose weight, believe me.

If you've not had a recent blood test, ask for one and make the appointment at the very earliest. Don't eat before the test but you can drink water. Leave about 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test (put tablets out of the way the day before as sometimes we forget) and take levo after the test. If you've not had Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate checked recently ask for these too as we can be deficient.

When we are hypo, everything slows down, our pulse and temp are low and many complain (before being diagnosed) of unexplained weight gain. Our metabolism is very low so we don't burn energy as we used too. Levo should be at a sufficient dose to raise our metabolism and therefore we wouldn't gain so much. Once we are on an optimum dose the weight should reduce or a diet would work whereas if we're not on enough hormones with a very low TSH it is difficult.
