Hello Diyena

Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid produces less thyroid hormone than it should which causes the metabolism to run too slow.

Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease where antibodies may first stimulate the thyroid, and then destroy it so causing hypothyroidism.

Thank you, I kept seeing Hashimotos mentioned and wondered if it was a different name for the same thing. I'm now educated. 😀

You need thyroid antibodies TPOAb or/and TGAb to have Hashi.

Once diagnosed you have them for life, just in varying degrees.

Hypothyroidism is having too little thyroid hormone.

Hashimoto's is the name of an autoimmune disease which attacks the thyroid.

Hypothyroidism is often caused by Hashimoto's. There are other possible causes of hypothyroidism including, for an extreme example, surgical removal of the thyroid.

At some stages, Hashimoto's can cause transient increases in thyroid hormone but the end result will be hypothyroidism.
