Starting levothyroxine today

Hi,

I've picked up my first prescription for levothyroxine today, and am hopeful that after previous premature births and recurrent miscarriages that we are now going in the right direction.

I would like to take it tonight, rather than wait until the morning, but wondered how long I need to have waited after eating?

I am thinking of taking it at around 9 or 10pm tonight.

I would take it in the morning, (in case it keeps you awake) on an empty stomach about an hour before food.

Good luck

Chasing-Rainbows, Levothyroxine should be taken 1 hour before food and drink, or two hours after, two hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from iron, calcium, vitaminD, B12 and oestrogen.

Research has demonstrated better results from taking Levothyroxine at night.

I hope you'll have your thyroid levels optimised in a few months and you have a successful pregnancy.

That's good to know. I'll make sure not to eat after 7-8pm then.

Fingers crossed, I'm really pleased with my new GP to have gotten the ball rolling at least.

Hopefully your GP will make sure your TSH is below 1 and your FT4 at the high end of the range. I am sorry for your losses, but now, hopefully the future will be brighter for you.
