Atrial Fibrillation
Olivia, my endo wants TSH <0.1 but it is usually <0.01. Endo's never mentioned atrial fibrillation. The Rotterdam Study finds no association between TSH and atrial fibrillation.
Total hogwash. (in my opinion) My heart symptoms have gone now that my TSH is low and my adrenals are under control.
No is the answer unless you are very frail with a heart condition already.

email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk and ask for a copy of Dr Toft's Pulse online article and question 6 highlight and give your Endo a copy. You will notice Dr Toft (ex President of the BTA) says some of us need a suppressed TSH.
How is your FT3 looking - if that is over range or under range - that is more like to be a problem
thanks , have spent so much money and now it seems that the advice was incorrect ..... These were my results for August bearing in mind that I took my 1 1/2 grain of nature thyroid at 7am and was told to have blood work ;
fasting at
8am ..my results were as follows
T4. 11pmol/L
TSH. 0.14 min/L(0.3-5.0)
T3. 10.3 pool/L(3.5-6.5)
Nov. again blood work taken after mess at 7am ...blood at 11am
T4. 10.4
TSH. 0.21
T3. 7.3
I was not sleeping due to severe anxiety and palpitation s
The Endo was not interested in any of the results but the TSH
She told me to cut my mess down to 1 grain .... But I do crash and feel tired mid morning ... I do not know what to do .. Even the Endo in the States was. On earned with AF ..only had one incident three years ago .. Lots of stress since moving here ... Live in Leicester and do not know what to do next .. I have two prescriptions ..one for 1 grain and one for 11/2 .... Help ,
My TSH is currently 0.02 (I'm on T3 only) and my endo is not happy, but I've been gathering the evidence that people kindly post to show that this is not necessarily a problem. I've definitely read one article which says between 0.04-0.4 is safe, which means yours would be ok. As Marz says though, FT3 is the important one (mine's still at the bottom!).
Here are two links to other sources of info about TSH and AF:
Never had it but I do have angina and haven't had an attack since I started NDT. Your doctor is WRONG supressed or low TSH does NOT cause atrial fibulation. Not enough thyroxine may do and remember that TSH is a pituatary hormone NOT a thyroid hormone.
