Welcome to the forum, Melmatt.

Hashimoto's causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Ask your Gp to do thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibody tests to check. Hashimoto flare ups is a common reason for TSH fluctuating but TSH 15 suggests undermedication or malabsorption. Ask your GP to do a coeliac blood screen and check whether any recently prescribed medication may be interfering with uptake of Levothyroxinne.

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with a glass of water on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements and 4 hours away from iron, calcium, vitamin D and oestrogen.

The treatment goal is to restore you to euthyroid status and this for most people on Levothyroxine means TSH just above or below 1.0 with FT4 near or in the top 75% of range.

Always request a print out of blood results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after the results) and you can then post them for advice and comment.

You might find taking the thyroxine at night just before you go to sleep helps improve uptake and effectiveness of your dose too. rather than taking first thing in morning. It certainly helped me a great deal. Endocrinologisrs often recommend taking thyroxine at night, they suggest it is something to do with the lower metabolism at night enabling better conversion of thyroxine (T4) to the active form (T3) or it just takes longer to digest and pass through the digestive system at night. You need to have not eaten for at least an hour (preferably longer) before taking thyroxine - so a good reason to avoid those late night snacks on the way to bed!

Melmatt, this is a common problem when doctor's adjust dose according to the TSH and causes a yo-yo effect of too much for a few months and then too little after dose is reduced. People need a stable dose. Post your results with the lab ref ranges in a new question and members will advise.

I will prob get results on Tuesday . I've also started gluten free today fingers crossed . Thanks uve been very helpful
