Think I waited for two weeks from Genova but I didn't think the NHS believed in saliva tests-intrigued!
Me neither. I am paying privately as thought the NHS only did a blood test for cortisol levels?
I'm at a big university city hospital and its new in their department. The only reason my Dr decided to do it was because I:m on the pill due to bad periods so it was to see if my blood cortisol results were a false normal. I've had it done before with them and it was borderline low so they're repeating it again its just last they forgot to tell me the results because its a new test and goes to a different lab or something... Basically I want to know when its a good time to remind them
I believe Southampton University Hospital do the saliva adrenal test.
I too am intrigued! The latest endo I saw re hypothyroidism (hashi's) poo pooed the whole concept of saliva testing. After putting in writing to me that my TFT's were normal whilst I was taking adrenal supplements & no thyroid meds she had to give way a bit & agreed to put in my medical notes that if I am admitted to hospital I should be treated as if on synthetic adrenal support even although she won't prescribe anything. I feel way better without thyroid meds
The NHS is a very large organisation. Some little backwater, or cutting edge unit, might do almost anything!
May I suggest using google and entering:
salivary cortisol site:.nhs.uk
You will find some work being done in Dulwich. And Brighton:
pathology.bsuh.nhs.uk/patho...
